Knock it off!

How many times have you had a negative message repeating in your head? A thought that just wouldn’t silence?

This has been a theme for most of my life…many positive things happen, but the negative things or the criticizing thoughts are the ones that won’t stop.

Last week, I presented at a virtual conference. After my presentation, I started in on myself…”You shouldn’t rehearsed more…you should’ve had someone else check over your slideshow, you shouldn’t have had so much text on your slides…etc.”

Then, as I was trying to settle into my weekend, I remembered something that my life coach had told me…a thought is just a thought. That’s all. Get a new thought to tell it to STOP.

So, in an effort to have a good weekend with positive thoughts and a good attitude, I said to myself,

”STOP!”

“Knock it off!”

“You did just fine.”

“Learn from it and do better next time.”

“Nobody noticed your weaknesses but you…AND YOU HAD STRENGTHS!!”

It really can be that simple…when I can’t seem to stop obsessing, I journal, tell a friend or try to get busy with a new project. It isn’t easy, but the more I do it, the better I become at making those negative thoughts go away.

Time to move on to the weekend…Thank goodness.
