If you really want to make a positive change, try this:
Get up early every morning and find a yoga mat and a peaceful spot. If your house is full of people, find your biggest bathroom or hide in the garage.
Put some yoga music or soft classical on your phone and breathe for a few minutes.
Tap into what your body needs. Do you need to touch your toes, sway, lie down and pull your knees to your chin? Maybe you feel like jumping jacks are what you need to start the day. Listen to your body and just do anything that feels good.
Years ago, I was under the false impression that there were rules for exercise. I thought I had to exercise for at least an hour and follow some type of structured plan.
When I found myself procrastinating and hating exercise, it took me a while to realize that I could EXERCISE ANY WAY I WANTED, BUT I HAD TO DO SOMETHING!
My depression and anxiety really escalates if I don’t find time for stretching and cardio. I need to find some ways to build my core muscles. Every day, I do something different. I do develop some favorite routines, but eliminating stress and stretching before I start the day is what works best.
If you like to go to the gym but feel like you don’t have the time, try going for no more than 40 minutes. When I go, I spend about 20 minutes on a bike or elliptical and then do a few weight machines – again, I listen to what my body needs before I decide. I always take time to stretch on a mat before I leave.
If you go to a gym with special amenities (I love Planet Fitness), make sure to save ten minutes to sit in the massage chair or use the sauna. That is one thing you can do after your workout to pamper yourself and feel good. Sometimes THAT is what gets me to the gym.
Whether you run, walk, bike or do jumping jacks, you need cardio to work on your endorphins. I usually do my cardio in the evening. Last January, I bought an Oculus. It has an app called Supernatural which gives you a virtual reality workout. Just one more option for getting your much needed exercise.
Exercise and movement creates energy to help you change your vibe.
